Stop the dolphin slaughter in Japan
Every year from October to March, fishermen kill over 20,000 small whales and dolphins.
Japan kills over 20,000 dolphins and small whales annually mist of which end up in the meat industry. These coastal killings profit mostly from selling the best specimens to aquariums worldwide, from $20,000 to $45,000 for good specimens for aquariums, swim with dolphins program and dolphin shows.
Hana and Helen the two dolphins that came almost 2 years ago to the Vancouver Aquarium, come from Taiji!
One dead dolphin sells for abour $600.00 US in the meat market.
Every day at the dolphin drive, 3 generations of dolphins and small whales get killed in the most brutal way.
Each year from October through March, in small towns across Japan, thousands of dolphins and small whales are confined and brutally killed with knives and other weapons. These slaughters take place in fishing towns including Taiji, Iki, Ito, Futo and Izu and the, Japanese fishermen drive complete families and pods of dolphins, porpoises and small whales into shallow bays and brutally kill them. The majority of these small cetaceans are sold as meat for supermarkets and restaurants.
Statement of a witness:
There were several very small babies in the pod. They still depended on their mothers' milk for survival and were too young to train. So the fishermen killed them, and the dolphin trainers did absolutely nothing to help them. The dolphins cried as the fishermen slashed them with hooks and knives and the lagoon filled with their blood. It takes a dolphin up to six minutes to die, a former fisherman from another Japanese fishing village has told us. "And they cry the entire time, with their eyes wide open," he said. The dolphins fought for their lives, even as their guts were ripped from their bellies and blood gushed out of their blowholes. But their screams had no effect on the trainers ...
Send a letter, e-mail or fax to the Prime Minister of Japan, the Minister of Fisheries, your local embassy or consulate and other Japanese officials to let them know that this barbaric slaughter is unacceptable.

Cada ano, de Octubre a Marzo en Taiji y otros lugares pesqueros en Japon, los pescadores matan entre 23,000 25,000 delfines y pequenas ballenas.
Los pescadores acorralan a cientos de delfines y pequenas ballenas, y ayudados de botes y redes, llevan a estos altamente inteligentes y sociables mamiferos a la orilla de la playa, donde selecionan a los jovenes mas fuertes y saludables y los venden desde $20,000 US a $45.000 US cada uno, a aquarios de todo el mundo, para shows de delfines y programas de nado con delfines. La mayoria que no son escogidos, los empiezan a acuchillar y matar a golpes, haciendo que esta masacre barbarica tarde horas, matando a los delfines y ballenas lentamente haciendoles sufrir una terrible agonia, incluyendo los bebes.
A veces por la presion internacional y que no quieren se graben videos o tomen fotos, se los llevan directamente al matadero donde les cortan el cuello y los dejan desangrar, mientras tratan de escaparse.
