Skinned!, a BC-based animal protection group, has been trying to rid Transcontinental  Western  Media Group of its fur advertising in GuestLife Vancouver.  If you recall, GuestLife is a publication for tourists that is placed in high-end hotels and basically directs people where to eat and shop.  Pappas Furs, Canada’s largest independent furrier has advertised consistently in GuestLife for the past several years.  Last year, GuestLife started to also advertise for Holt Renfrew fur salon and we would like this publication to completely sever its ties with the fur industry altogether.

As the publisher, Kim Peacock, remains wholly indifferent to our efforts, Skinned! will be delivering  her office a final punch.  We are scheduling continuous actions against Transcontinental and would greatly appreciate it if you could call and email and our behalf during this week.  Your phone calls and emails have brought us to victory in the past, so please throw your support behind us again by emphatically demanding that Ms. Peacock cancel all the fur advertising in GuestLife Vancouver.

Here are some points on the animal cruelty behind fur in case anyone is rusty:

·         Fur bearing animals endure hideous suffering and death.  They are caught in the wild with snares, leghold and conibear traps and endure excruciating pain.  Death is rarely swift.  In a desperate attempt to escape, many try to chew their limbs off, or languish for hours or even days until the trapper returns, only to be shot or clubbed to death if they are still alive.  Others die of infection or become prey to other animals.

 

·         Fur farms (more like fur factories) subject animals to a lifetime of suffering and death.  Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives in small, filthy cages, madly pacing back and forth out of stress and boredom.  Cannibalism is often the grim reality of this psychological distress.  There is no humane slaughter legislation to protect these animals. Fur farmers use gruesome killing methods that include gassing, suffocation, neck breaking, as well as anal and vaginal electrocution.  The situation is becoming even more desperate since the majority of fur farmed animals are now being raised in China where wild furbearers and domestic dogs and cats are routinely skinned alive.

 

Contrary to the deceitful claims of the fur industry, fur is not an eco-friendly product.  Snares, leghold and conibear traps are indiscriminate and non-targeted animals can be accidently caught, and some of these could involve members of endangered species.

 Seal hunt in South Africa:

35 years later, thousands of seals criminally murdered by government approved fishermen, and still the Minister refuses to introduce a regulation to ban guns in fishing.

 
      There is only one reason 30 000 fishermen take guns to sea - and that is to shoot and kill protected seals.
 
      So whether the Government is banning seals from 99% of their former seal islands, causing the new-born baby seals to drown, or it turns a blind eye to 30 000 fishermen shooting and killing seals daily, or licenses seal clubbers to club to death 85 000 pups, or commercially shots 9000 bulls for their penis, or just for trophy hunting and sport, or calls thousands of seals drowned in any one of 65 000 commercial trawl fishing nets deployed opposite seal breeding colonies, as incidental seal drowning - the end result, is that government is NOT protecting our seals.

Europe, which the world looks upon as the model of civilization, has many members who keep a dirty little secret:  animal porno. This issue has become so banal in some countries that it is openly allowed by their laws, in total disregard to animal cruelty and suffering.  The Netherlands, which hides under the umbrella that it is the most free country in Europe where all is allowed (including tolerance to drug use) permits all sorts of animal sexual abuses.  Indeed it is considered the center of the animal porno industry, and it is said that 65% of all animal porno finds its origin in the Netherlands.
Denmark is another country that is quite open about animal pornography, and it is worse:  Raping animals is not only allowed, but they profit from it.   We have always known that Denmark was a liberal country, what most people ignore is that raping animals in that country is not only allowed but a thriving business for some so called farmers and people who get an income from selling their hapless animals to rapists. 

Attempts to end this type of cruelty have been made, but they are always met with the utmost complacency that closely resembles mockery.

** 2012 Olympic Site Cats at risk of Starvation and Death

Please support the Celia Hammond Animal Trust in their bid to rescue feral and domestic stray cats which are at risk of being crushed during demolition work, or starving to death, on the Olympic site.  147 Cats and kittens have already been rescued by the Trust. We urge the Olympic Delivery Authority to lift the current ban on the Trust going onto the major part of the site to allow them to bring the remaining cats to safety.  Rescue work is carried out at night so demolition work on the site is not delayed in any way.

The market called San Bernabé is located in Almoloya de Juárez, State of México; at this place the main merchandise are mules, donkeys and horses, which are in extreme terrible state and with a total lack of health regulations, thus violating consistently and permanently both: the laws against animal cruelty and sanitary conditions.
 
Authorities, while having total law enforcement faculties, and all the proof required to permanently close the place (via images in different media), have done nothing about it. The animals for sale, in its majority, are visible sick; they are transported under deplorable and sadistical ways, without any care even for those showing exposed fractures, bleeding or with visible wounds. When they cannot hold on foot, they are hung with ropes to pretend they are still strong enough. They totally lack medical attention, as well as water and food. In case they die before getting to the place where they are normally sacrificed, their entrails are thrown away right on the floor.
 
They are called throw-away (or disposable) animals; they are kept with life up to the last possible moment, while in a slow and lasting agony, because every pound of living meat costs twice as much as the pound of dead meat.

** URGENT Action Required
This week, the Humane Society International / HSUS Protect Seals team is on trial for documenting the 2006 Canadian seal hunt.

It happened in 2006. That March, seven HSI/HSUS observers filmed as sealers killed helpless baby seals. Without warning, they were stopped by fisheries officers and arrested. The officers claimed they had gone slightly within the ten-meter barrier they are required to maintain from seal hunters as a condition of our observation permits. Their footage was seized, and they were denied observation permits for the rest of the 2006 hunt.

This court case is part of an ongoing effort by the Canadian government and others to block observation of the commercial seal hunt. Just months ago, the Canadian government proposed to double the distance observers must remain from seal hunters. Seal hunters have also worked to prevent observers from documenting the seal hunt, forming mobs and assaulting observers on the ice floes.

But the increasing frustration of sealers is not surprising. Markets for seal products are shutting globally and more companies are boycotting Canadian seafood as the world sees the cruelty at the hunt. The Canadian government and sealing industry have to do something.

But rather than address the extreme cruelty we document each and ever year, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans is trying to eliminate documentation. It's a cruelty cover-up. But it can only work if we let the Canadian government do this quietly. We need your help to expose the truth. We are fighting for our rights to be there for the seals and to expose the brutality that is unleashed on the unsuspecting baby seals each year.

Help us now to speak up for the seals. You can help us in three important ways:

Le recordamos que existe en Paraná un decreto Nº 1212/92 vigente desde hace 14 años (y refrendado por Ud. Mismo en una gestión anterior) en el cual en su Capítulo V - Artículo 10  expresa CLARAMENTE la prohibición de la tracción a sangre en prácticamente todo el égido de Paraná.
 
Es una vergüenza que aún sigan circulando esos abnegados animales por las calles sin ni siquiera un grupo veterinarios municipales competentes que les brinde las atenciones básicas (léase) medicamentos, alimentos y control sanitario periódico.

Japan kills over 10 million cats + dogs a year (petition)

There are no really law protecting animals in Japan, there are no shelters for the abused companion animals, Japan is killing its dogs and cats in gas chambers or send it to Researching Institutes.
Pet shops let the animals die, which are not sold, people also throwing their companion in the garbage.

We estimate the killed companion animals in Japan at 10 millions each year or more. But Japan is still importing more and more animals.The mind of Japanese people have to change, but we also need a law, which can protect all these animals.

Therefore we decided to make a worldwide petition for the animals.

May 21st International boycott Vs. Procter & Gamble

For May 21st activists around the world are preparing a day of  action against the products of Procter& Gamble, due to the absurdiness of the experiments it realize with live animals, such as: Guinea pigs,rabbits, hamsters and mice among others. Last year they were about 140 boycotts worldwide against this enterprise although P & G keeps poisoning and killing millions of animals a year.

Some actions to do are:
- Protest in the supermarketss.
- "swipe" the supermarkets, which implies to fill the shoping cart with products fabricated by P&G and to leave it next to the cashier or manager or service area/customer service, and telling them that we are not going to purchase all those products which are experimented in animals (of course in a very amiable tone...and politeness).
- Call the centers of attention to customers/ customer centers of P & G, and show our disagreament with the experiments they perform in animals. The phones com on the back of all their products.
- Talk in our work centers or study, so as with family and friends about the way to take responsability as consumers, buying alternative products cruelty free.
